Assignment 1 : Basic Garment Draping (Week 1 - Week 4)
The first class of my second semester for the class of the Garment Draping module studies actually started on the second week of the semester. Regarding our first assignment for this Garment Draping class, we were told by our lecturer in charge, sir Shafirul Riza, to bring the necessities for basic garment draping, such as calico fabric, draping tape, and of course our essential toolbox.
Of course, the class began with the tutorial demonstration on how to apply the draping tape onto the dummy. We were required to do that afterwards.
Afterwards, the tutorial continued with a demonstration on how to drape the calico fabric onto the dummy. And then, we were required to do that afterwards as well.
And after the process of draping the calico fabric onto the dummy to create the desired basic garment silhouette, we will need to mark every seam lines and notches, because we will be going to take it off the dummy later, and lay the pieces onto the mahjong to begin the next process.
The next step would be to lay all of the pieces onto the mahjong paper, and trace the pieces on the mahjong paper, so that it will become a working pattern. And yes, we need to add the seam allowances.
Continuing on, the cut out pieces from the mahjong paper, as mentioned before, are the working patterns, as we will need to lay them on the calico fabric this time.
Needless to say, we will of course need to start sewing now, sew all the pieces, and begin with the creation process of the basic dress.
And there you have it, a full finished look of a basic dress. This assignment was really enjoyable, as I have wanted to learn draping. Thank you to my lecturer in charge, sir Shafirul Riza, for the ongoing guidance as always.
