Assignment 2 : Exploration of  Garment Draping (Week 5 - Week 8)

The second task for the Garment Draping class led by my lecturer in charge, Shafirul Riza, we went on a journey of garment draping exploration. The process for the entire was different from the basic garment draping task, but in a way, the method remains the same to achieve the end product.

First of all, I needed to come up the technical drawing for my design.

Without further ado, this is and will be the toile for my final design. And of course, we start off by doing the application of taping the dummy, before draping the calico onto the dummy.

Afterwards, after the draping process onto the dummy, we may now and take it off the dummy, and start to trace the pieces onto the mahjong paper.

With the draping pieces all taken off of the dummy, now we can trace the pieces onto the mahjong paper, and that will be our working pattern.

The next process would be straight forward as it can be, which is putting the working patterns onto the white cotton fabric. Of course, it would have to follow the grainlines as usual.

And this is my final product of my first design in toile version. The outcome was not as I expected as much, as what I did wrong was not applying the jacket interfacing soon, therefore the grainlines were compromised, which also caused the toile to not be able to fit on the dummy.

The whole process very enjoyable, but this particular one was a little tough for me as it is my first design using the method of draping.

I am a little bit disappointed with myself and the outcome, but I guess I have to take it as a learning process, as my lecturer in charge said,

Thank you to my lecturer in charge, Shafirul Riza, for guiding me throughout the whole process, and for being understanding of my mistakes and shortcomings. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable assignment still.
